Simon, the third-party parkers and a judicial parking ban
Simon Sauer:
My garage exit is always blocked by other people’s cars. Unlike in your article “Are towing costs permissible?“, in the canton of St. Gallen you have to pay the towing costs in advance, otherwise the vehicle will not be towed away. As a result, I’ve been stuck with the costs several times.
How can I charge the towing costs to third-party parkers without having to pay in advance?
Answer:
Hello Simon
Unfortunately, this is not possible.
However, we can recommend a different approach: As the owner, you can obtain a parking ban from the judge. As a rule, it is sufficient to photograph the third-party parkers with the date and time. A court ban should have a deterrent effect, if only because of the threat of punishment. Parking offenders can be reported to the police easily and free of charge and then have to pay a fine to the state.
